IUCN expands partnership with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures

Davos, Switzerland, 24 May 2022 -- IUCN and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) announced today at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting that they will engage Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities to ensure their voices and perspectives are incorporated into the new TNFD framework.

The TNFD framework, now in prototype format, will enable corporates and financial institutions to assess and disclose on their nature-related risks and opportunities, with the ultimate aim of helping to shift financial flows from nature-negative to nature-positive outcomes. Final recommendations from the Taskforce are due in September 2023.

"IUCN is committed to ensuring that the voices of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, as key stewards of nature, are incorporated into the TNFD Framework,” said Dr Bruno Oberle, Director General, IUCN.

Around the world, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities play a vital role in safeguarding nature. At the same time, their communities are highly dependent on nature for their livelihoods, and as a result, Indigenous-led enterprises are often pioneers in sustainable business models.
