The Newcastle Law School, Australia, is offering a free online course on “International Climate Change Law and Policy”

International Climate Change Law and Policy is coordinated by an interdisciplinary team of experts, including Dr. Elena Aydos (Newcastle Law School, UON), Dr. Sven Rudolph (Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University) and Professor Christopher Kellett (School of Electrical Engineering and Computing, UON).

This free online course will equip students with the fundamentals of International Climate Change Law and Policy. Students will learn to critically assess Environmental Economics theory and its application to climate change policy, including the use of market-based policy approaches such as environmental taxes and emissions trading.

What you'll learn:

  • Critically assess the causes of Climate Change and distinguish its impacts in relation to different countries and generations,
  • Understand the legal principles, rules and institutions of the international climate change regime,
  • Explain how markets function and fail by applying the Theory of Externalities,
  • Compare and contrast Taxes and Cap-and-Trade, with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness,
  • Demonstrate intercultural awareness and sensitivity to the social and economic perspectives of other nations.

The length of the course is 4 weeks, starting on 17 July 2019.

Dr. Elena Aydos is a Senior Lecturer and Program Convener of the Master of Laws and Master of Environmental Law at the Newcastle Law School, University of Newcastle, Australia.
