Coastal Oceans Research and Development - Indian Ocean (East Africa)

CORDIO is an Indian Ocean programme initiated in 1999 in response to the ENSO related mass bleaching and mortality of corals in 1998, focusing initially on East Africa, the central islands and South Asia. Since the Indian Ocean tsunami we also work in the Andaman Sea, and from 2007 the Red Sea. Our work includes research on coastal and ocean ecosystems and people, to improve conservation and promote sustainable use, particularly under the threat of climate change and increasing populations
