Detroit Zoological Society

The Detroit Zoological Society (the DZS) is a tax-exempt charitable organization serving the greater Detroit region. More than 2,000 animals representing 237 species of amphibians, mammals, birds and reptiles live in the Zoo's 125 acres of true-to-life habitats that bring visitors face-to-face with these exotic creatures. The Zoo also has extensive education programs that reach visitors and area schools delivering content on natural history and conservation of animals, with the goal of promoting empathy and humane connections. The DZS's conservation programs range from amphibian and bird conservation efforts to conducting field surveys in Antarctic, Armenia, and China. The DZS also collaborates with Association of Zoos and Aquariums, IUCN and other international leaders in conservation and animal welfare.
