Forest Department

Established in 1887, the Forest Department is the main authority on forestry activities in Sri Lanka. These consist of the protection of forests, management of forests for biodiversity conservation, watershed characteristics and multiple use, silviculture, forestry research and education, participatory forestry, environmental management in forestry, forestry extension, forest inventory and mapping, maintenance of databases on biodiversity and multiple use forestry.
