IUCN President Razan Al Mubarak to co-lead efforts to assist business and finance sector in conserving nature
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), which helps businesses and financial organisations work towards nature-positive outcomes, has appointed IUCN President H.E. Razan Al Mubarak to serve as Co-Chair alongside David Craig.
Razan Al Mubarak was chosen to serve as IUCN President in 2021.
H.E. Razan Al Mubarak and David Craig will be tasked with leading the 40-member Taskforce, which was created in June 2020 with the goal of providing business and finance leaders with better quality information on nature to allow them to more readily incorporate nature-related risks and opportunities into their own planning and strategic decisions – thus shifting the flow of global capital to better outcomes for nature.
“I am honoured to be stepping into the role of Co-Chair of the TNFD at this critical juncture. COP28 highlighted that business and finance now accept that climate change and nature loss are not separate challenges, but inextricably linked as integrated planetary systems,” said Razan Al Mubarak.
Razan Al Mubarak was elected IUCN President in 2021, the first woman from West Asia to lead the Union and its first Arab leader since 1978. She also served as a UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's (UNFCCC) 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), which took place in the United Arab Emirates in November 2023.
IUCN has been working closely with TNFD as a knowledge partner to contribute scientific expertise to the understanding and management of corporate impacts on biodiversity and to facilitate the inclusion of Indigenous peoples’ perspectives.
