Civil Society Organizations (CSO) interested in this call from the 4 North African countries have submitted project proposals related to the 3 eligible programme themes: (i) species and ecosystem conservation, (ii) co-management of terrestrial and marine protected areas, and (iii) ecotourism and sharing the benefits of conservation. Projects presented by country are as follows: Algeria 83, Libya 19, Morocco 58 and Tunisia 63. Among the project proposals received, 26 came from CSO that had already participated in the 1st PPI-OSCAN phase (2015-2017).

Once the selection process is finished, PPI-OSCAN 2 will fund about 32 environmental projects carried by "emerging" CSO for amounts that will reach a maximum of € 30,000 per project and about 8 environmental projects carried out by CSO having already participated in the first PPI-OSCAN, for amounts reaching € 40,000 per project.

The Small-Scale Initiatives Programme for Civil Society Organizations, phase 2 (2018-2021) aims to strengthen the capacities of emerging civil society organizations in North Africa so that they can develop in the short term concrete field initiatives contributing to the preservation of the global environment and to participate in the medium term to the implementation of national strategies and policies on biodiversity and the fight against climate change in the four countries involved (Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia).

This programme is coordinated by the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation and jointly funded by the French Global Environment Facility and MAVA Foundation.
