The mission of the IUCN SSC Hyaena Specialist Group (HSG) is to contribute to and promote the understanding and conservation of the species in the family Hyaenidae: spotted hyaenas, striped hyaenas, brown hyaenas and aardwolves.
Specialist Group work
The HSG focuses on promoting the understanding and conservation of the species in the family Hyaenidae.
Understanding threats to Hyaena’s
Research activities include developing online threats assessment survey and publish a range-wide occurrence study (action plan) for the four species of hyaena.
Hyaena’s on the IUCN Red List
HSG assesses species for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species to inform conservation efforts.
