Our group works to build capacity in Red List assessment tools in addition to connecting and empowering teams to improve and publish knowledge of lichen diversity and conservation. By connecting field researchers, taxonomists, and conservation practitioners, we find synergies among conservation needs of researchers, providing practical solutions to be able to prioritize conservation across taxonomic groups and regions.
The lichen SG is currently building networks of people in order to improve capacity across all aspects of the species conservation cycle and strengthen the visibility of lichens in biodiversity conservation strategies by publishing Red List assessments of lichens from all continents.
Thirty-three lichen species assessments were published in 2020.
To inform conservation efforts, LSG assesses species for the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
