More about the Specialist Group
The IUCN SSC West Africa Plant RLA aims to increase the number of assessments of West Africa plant species at an increased rate than the present. Also, to network with West African and international specialist researchers, conservationists, policymakers and other stakeholders. Specialist Group work
Encourage greater awareness of threatened plant species in West Africa, particularly Guinea, and to influence the protection of these species and their habitats both at the policy level and on the ground. We aim to:
- Expand the coverage, quality and content of biodiversity assessments, particularly Red List assessments;
- Strengthen and expand species conservation planning efforts at local, national, regional and global scales;
- Enhance biodiversity conservation action through implementation of effective, collaborative and practical approaches.
Planning and Action
Strengthen and expand species conservation planning efforts at local, national, regional and global scales. The group is supporting efforts to write conservation action plans for threatened species and a National Action Plan for threatened tree species of Guinea. The group will advise members on putting conservation actions into practice based on these plans.
